Questions are weighted by difficulty. Easy questions are worth 1 point, medium 2 points, and hard 3 points. Your IQ score scales from 50 to 145+.

How the Pickleball IQ Score Works

The Pickleball IQ Test uses a weighted scoring system inspired by standardized cognitive assessments. Each question is assigned a difficulty level: easy questions are worth 1 point, medium questions are worth 2 points, and hard questions are worth 3 points. Your raw score is the total points you earn from correct answers.

Your IQ score is then calculated using the formula: IQ = 50 + (rawScore / maxRawScore) * 95. This maps your performance onto a scale from 50 (no correct answers) up to 145 (perfect score), placing you into one of six tiers from Casual Dinker all the way up to Pickleball Genius.

The 28 questions are split across 5 categories: Rules (6 questions), Strategy (6 questions), Situational Play (6 questions), Shots and Technique (5 questions), and Pickleball History (5 questions). Each category bar on your results page shows what percentage of available points you earned in that section.

Most players finish in 5-8 minutes. There is no time limit, so take your time on each question.
Is a 100 IQ score average for pickleball players?
The scale is designed so 100 represents a solid intermediate player. The average score falls around 82-88, placing most testers in the Court Smart range. Reaching 100+ means you genuinely understand pickleball strategy and rules at an advanced level.
Can I retake the test to improve my score?
Yes. Retaking after reading the explanations for questions you missed is a great way to learn. The explanations are shown immediately after each answer, so pay attention as you go.
Does a high IQ score mean I am a good player?
Knowledge and on-court execution are related but separate skills. A high score means you understand pickleball deeply, which should translate to better decisions on the court. But physical skill, reflexes, and court time are equally important.
What rating level should aim for Pickleball Genius?
Most 4.5+ rated players who study the game score in the Scholar or Genius range. However, we have seen 3.0 players with Genius scores who are avid students of the game, and 5.0 players who score in the Strategist range because they learned by feel rather than by studying rules.
